Hello, my name is Mason. I was born in Vancouver, Canada. Not long after being born, my parents and I moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And a few years after that, we moved to Houston, Texas.
I played a lot of sports growing up in Houston—basketball, football, and about a month-and-a-half of soccer. But baseball was where my heart was at. I played from as soon as I could walk until my junior year of high school.
As a catcher, I grew accustomed to taking 90-mile-an-hour tipped fastballs to the face, throwing my body in front of sliding baserunners to make a tag, and sitting in a squat for hours at a time.
I don't play competitively anymore, but the lessons I learned about toughness, hard work, and thick skin will last a lifetime.
My high school days were defined by theatre. I acted in several shows, including "The Glass Menagerie" and "The Crucible," and was a member of my school's improv troupe.
Theatre was my first exposure to the power of storytelling. The skills and experience I gained during this time in my life will motivate and inspire me forever.
My love for storytelling continued into my time as a Professional Writing major at the University of Oklahoma. My dad went to OU and my grandparents live in Norman. As you can see, I was destined to be a Sooner. While at OU, I authored a novel of 50,000+ words and a novella of 20,000+.
These were labors of love, characterized by long nights and lots of red markings from professors on Word docs. But these struggles only made me a stronger writer with even thicker skin than before.
Until the day comes when I need to write 5,000 words in a single day—something I did routinely at OU—no volume of work intimidates me.
This leads me to where I am now: a recent graduate of the MA in Advertising program at UT Austin.
This past summer, I interned at Erich & Kallman's new Austin office to write for Gulf States Toyota, Impossible Foods, and Reese's. I learned a lot, gained valuable experience, and met some cool people along the way.
With that complete, I'm ready to hit the ground running in a full-time junior copywriting role and put my skills to use.
Welcome to my portfolio.
